Prayers needed for all tied to Russian adoption

While I am waiting to hear on the two lovely girls I so desperately want to bring home and call mine (and Joel’s) I am reminded today that there are children quite literally around the world that are without parents and living in desperate and empty conditions. Not to speak poorly of international countries, as that is definitely NOT what I mean. What I mean is children in orphanages suffer from lack of attachment and many long term issues related to food security concerns and lack of adult caregiver contact.

General Rule: Kids lives in a family home > (qualitatively) kids lives in orphanages

The news came recently that Putin signed the adoption ban that their legislative branch passed. This bill bans all US citizens from adopting Russian children. It goes into effect Tuesday, January 1st, 2013. This has a HUGE ripple effect quite literally around the world, from families unsure of their next step in the adoption process following this news, to children continuing to living without parents and families, to Stories like this.

Regardless of the political, or really any, reason behind this ban it and any other restriction on adoption OTHER than to make it safer for children, the fact is the real losers are the kids. Kids who, like in the above story, are left wonder why these people that I have pictures of, that promised they would come back for me haven’t come back and now say they can’t. Maybe just like other people who didn’t come back or my birth parents who left. Who is left to wonder why these children have difficulty believing this time is for real and forever.

Please be in prayer for everyone that has been personally touched by this bill. I know of someone but do not have their permission to share their blog. You know who you are if you want to link to your blog in the comments. But most important pray for the kids, pray that God would shelter their hearts from yet another loss and make a way where none seems possible to get them into loving homes wherever God wants them to be.

  1. Katie,
Thank you so much for this post! Spreading awareness of the Russian orphan’s plight is the best possible way to help at this point. It means more than I can say that you took the time to write and share this.

I especially loved, “But most important pray for the kids, pray that God would shelter their hearts from yet another loss and make a way where none seems possible to get them into loving homes wherever God wants them to be.”

I’m not sure if you were referring to us, but anyone interested is welcome to read our blog at http://www.DearToMe.net
Thank you again! I hope you get your news soon and will be praying for you.
    Kathleen

    • I was most definitely referring to you (and can relate to your staying up until all hours of the night). What is going on with Russian adoption ban is heart breaking on so many levels but winds up leaving the kids to bear the burden for adults inabilities or emotional responses.
